Why is writing a research paper important for high school and college students?
Top universities increasingly expect students to have research experience in high school. UPenn’s admission announcement revealed that “Nearly one-third of the admitted students engaged in academic research during their time in high school“. Working on research is also a way to participate and win in research competitions that would also strengthen students’ applications.
Our 1-on-1 4-month program helps you “Write Your First Research Paper” with research mentors and professors
Our 1-on-1 mentorship program ensures that the student gets the professor/mentor’s full attention and support to ensure rapid progress and success in the program. By the end of the program, the student will have done a research project that they can publish and use to participate in research competitions.
Program Structure
Throughout the 4-month program, you will learn about the following topics:
- How to define a research problem
- How to perform a literature survey
- Data collection and statistical analysis
- Mathematical modeling
- Computer Simulation
- Using Machine Learning for data analysis
- Research paper structure and format.
- Writing your first research paper
- How to submit your paper for publication and the academic review process in journals and conferences
- How to participate in student research competitions

1-on-1 Mentorship
Weekly 1-on-1 meetings with a research mentor in your field for individualized mentorship and support. By the end of the program, the student will produce a research report that can be used to target publication and research competitions.
($4,800 for the full duration of the program)
Includes:
✓
Our mentors will guide you to write your first research or survey paper and how to publish it
✓
The student will be matched with a university professor or researcher
✓
Weekly 1-on-1 meetings with the research mentor for individualized support
The program is organized and managed by Prof. Nawab of the University of California, Irvine. Our research mentors include university professors and researchers in various fields in STEM.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I have questions about the program, how can I reach you?
You can join an information session (by clicking here) where a research mentor can answer all your questions about the program. You can also send us a message through this form: https://researchcollegeprep.com/contact/
Is the program focused on a specific area of science?
The program is primarily focused on research using STEM-related methods (including mathematical modeling and analysis, machine learning, and simulation). However, students interested in applications outside of STEM can still apply the methods learned in the program to write a research paper that utilizes STEM methods but for their domain-specific application.
What background do I need to succeed in this program?
The program is designed for high school students and early undergraduate college students. To succeed, participants must have a strong command of the English language, particularly in reading and writing. Also, we expect participants to have basic familiarity with mathematics at the level of a high school sophomore. With the program’s focus on STEM-related methods, students with a strong background in mathematics or computer science will have the opportunity to achieve greater outcomes.
What if I join the program and I do not like it?

“The [sessions] were great and hearing the professor’s perspective was intereseting. It was clear that the professor was passionate about the field.”
“[Sessions] are great”
“I think the [sessions] are great, and the Professor is excellent at welcoming questions. Allowing students to ask questions and bring clarity to the material has helped me understand the concepts much better. The homework assignment have also been very closely related to the material learned, so it is a good reinforcement for the concepts learned.”
“Everything was done exceptionally well”
“Everything was done exceptionally well with the content and quality of the professor.”
